Supporting and Encouraging Redevelopment in Downtown Springfield

The mission of the Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation, a 501c3, is to support, enhance, promote and preserve the historic, architectural, artistic and cultural heritage of the City of Springfield and the hometown area of Abraham Lincoln through education, preservation and beautification.

The Foundation was created in 1999 by the leadership of the downtown business association, recognizing the need for a charitable organization to undertake some of the revitalization challenges, including accepting donation of properties and coordinating new ownership in order to preserve Lincoln-era buildings.

One of our most popular saves was the 125 year old Bunn-Sanky House, which after a year and a half of renovation, became the new home for the law firm, Wolter, Beeman & Lynch in 2010.

In 2019, we closed on a deal at 312 E Adams which will help a downtown business expand and will build out new upper story apartments and helped broker a private deal that will ultimately save a small business’ location and likely result in upper story apartments.

In recent years, the Foundation has also sponsored DSI’s Amaranth Apple Festival and Old Capitol Holiday Walks; and won a grant to help activate the Old State Capitol Plaza with new colorful seating to add to the new lights and family games.

Please contact us if you know of a downtown property that we may facilitate saving at heritagefoundationspi@gmail.com

The Foundation also accepts charitable monetary donations to further its mission. Please send your donation by check to:
